Griffith’s Extreme Adventure Experience:

The 5 day /4 night Griffith Extreme Adventure is an active vacation with a combination of thrills and chills! From biking through the legendary slickrock terrain to jaw-dropping rappelling to roaring whitewater rapids, this trip is not for the faint of heart. Activities include: Canyoneering from arches, mountain biking famous trails, taking a jet boat ride down the Colorado River, rafting the Class V whitewater of Cataract Canyon, and a scenic flight over Canyonlands National Park! This trip also includes 2 nights at the awesome Gonzo Inn.!

What's Included:

Itinerary:

  • Sunset Hummer TourDay 1-Sunset Hummer Tour: Welcome to Moab and the Gonzo Inn! After settling into your suite, enjoy dining at the Moab Brewery where you can enjoy Moab's only 'on-site' brewery and a varied menu including sandwiches, steaks, salads, burgers, daily specials, and kid's menu. Whether you're hungry or thirsty, enjoy the comfortable atmosphere. End your first day with an exciting sunset Hummer tour. Moab's slickrock trails are a great place to see what Hummers can really do. This is easy fun for the whole family. This adventure features visits to secluded canyons, ancient rock art and breathtaking vistas!
  • Mountian Biking Day 2-Guided Mountain Bike Ride and Orientation: A Solfun Tour guide will meet you in the lobby for your guided mountain bike ride at 7:00 AM. (May change depending on season) Klondike Bluffs is a 10-15 mile half day ride with moderate climbs and varied terrain. This ride offers bikers a good introduction to Moab's famous slickrock terrain. We'll also view dinosaur tracks along our route. At the half way point a short walk will take us into Arches National Park and to breathtaking views of the red bluffs and arches below. The ride back is mostly down hill with lots of dips and rolls. Lots of fun! Following your guided mountain bike ride, your guide will make you lunch.

    • Orientation: This evening before the trip, we meet at 5 pm (MDT) at the Sheri Griffith Expeditions office in Moab for a trip orientation. Here you will meet one of your guides, learn what to expect and prepare for, receive your dry bags, sign release forms, and ask questions.

  • CanyoneeringDay 2- afternoon Canyoneering: A Cliffs and Canyons Guide will meet you in the Gonzo Inn's Lobby for your guided canyoneering adventure at 7:30 PM. Ephedra's Grotto begins as we hike across ancient petrified sand dunes which lead us into a dry rock wash. Quickly the wash turns into a dry waterfall that seems to almost disappear into the tightest, deepest rain gutter imaginable. "We go down there?!" is the usual question after peering over the edge, and indeed we do. This exquisite rappel is the first obstacle in reaching the entrance to the amazing and not-at-all-famous Grotto. Now, enveloped in a small stone room, whose floor rarely sees the light of day, we exit to find our next challenge… a jaw-dropping rappel into the alluring green canyon below via an enormous natural stone bridge! A cool spring-fed stream accompanies us for the rest of this outstanding hike.

Canyonlands National ParkDay 3-Jet Boat Ride, & Canyonlands National Park: We will pick you up at the Gonzo Inn at 8:00 AM. We then drive a few miles north of Moab to the Potash boat ramp on the Colorado River, load the boats and head down stream. Once on the Colorado River, you will receive a river orientation and meet your other guides and fellows guests. Within a short time we enter the spectacular landscape of Canyonlands National Park. You'll stop to hike as well as for lunch where you'll create your own deli masterpiece. Later in the day you will pass Dead Horse Point State Park where "Mission: Impossible 2" and "Thelma and Louise" were filmed.

  • Whitewater Rafting Day 4-The Whitewater:After a healthy breakfast on the first morning the guides take time to teach you how to enjoy the big rapids safely. Then the fun really begins. In high water, late May through early June, the waves can be gigantic and in quick succession. They are more moderate but still fun and exciting July through September. You will encounter rapids with names like Capsize, North Sea's, Little Niagara, Satan's Gut and Ben Hurt. As you continue downstream the rapids become more intense until you enter the Big Drops the steepest descent on the Colorado River. You complete the day's run and relax on a sandy beach to recount the excitement. Traditionally, the last night of the river trip is "dress-up" night. Anything goes if you would like to participate. It is up to your imagination! This is a great way to celebrate the trip and near completion of your Mighty Colorado River adventure.

  • Scenic FlightDay 5-Lake Powell and Scenic Flight Return: After the whitewater, the Colorado River forces its way into Lake Powell and we motor off the lake. On the last day we will view 2,000-foot cliffs and explore some lost side canyons no longer under Lake Powell. After pulling the rafts and gear from the lake, the guides escort guests up to a landing strip for the return flight to Moab. This is no ordinary flight back; this is a scenic flight over Canyonlands National Park and the river you just rafted ~ the perfect end to the perfect vacation. We'll meet you at the airport and drive back to Moab where you will arrive by 6:30-7:00 PM (MDT) Relax this evening in the Gonzo Inn hot tube.
